While watching the 2006 midterm election returns on TV as a high school student, Alex fell in love with the political process and became determined to work in Congress. Within five years, that dream became a reality when he took a job working for his hometown representative, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4).
It was in Rep. Himes’ office that Alex discovered a new love: transportation policy. Whether it was announcing a new federal grant to improve pedestrian access to the Stamford Transportation Center or responding to a Metro-North Railroad train derailment in the district, Alex developed a passion for transportation and how it intersects with other issues like safety, economic development, job security, and climate change.
Alex has since made a career out of this passion. After spending three years playing various roles in the Himes office, Alex left to get his master’s degree in Public Administration at Syracuse University, where he completed a capstone project working with the U.S. Maritime Administration to measure the productivity and efficiency of our nation’s ports. Alex later worked at the Eno Center for Transportation, covering Congressional action on transportation policy and leading the organization’s analysis of hundreds of transportation-related ballot measures across the country. Alex then returned to Capitol Hill to work for newly-elected Rep. Abby Finkenauer (IA-1), managing the Congresswoman’s efforts on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee.
Alex now serves as a Deputy Director for Transportation & Innovation at Third Way’s Climate and Energy Program, where he joins the organization’s ongoing efforts to put the country on the fastest, fairest path to net zero emissions by 2050. When he’s not working to make our nation’s transportation network more sustainable, Alex can usually be found exploring one of DC’s many museums, learning something new on his piano, or spending time with a new dogsitting companion.
