Susan Wasem is a dedicated Human Resources professional committed to uplifting and supporting others to achieve their best. She firmly believes that Human Resources is the heart of any organization and strives to create an authentic and equitable HR department that supports and engages all staff.
Susan holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Norfolk State University (NSU) and was the first recipient of NSU’s Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence’s Dr. Yvonne B. Miller "Spirit of the IC" Award. This prestigious honor is awarded to a student who exemplifies the qualities of Senator Dr. Miller: outstanding leadership, advocacy for the underserved, loyalty and devotion to NSU, and servant leadership. As part of this award, she received an Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (ICCAE) scholarship, allowing her to travel to India, learn Hindi, and immerse herself in the culture. This transformative experience sparked her passion for the nonprofit sector and set her on a path to thrive in Human Resources, driven by her desire to support missions that make a positive impact in the world.
With over a decade of experience in Human Resources and holding a SHRM Senior Certified Professional certification, Susan’s journey has been marked by many rewarding achievements. She has worked at several prominent organizations, most recently serving as the Director of HR & Administration at the National Apartment Association and as the Human Resources Manager at the German Marshall Fund.
Born to Nigerian parents, Susan has lived in nine countries by the age of 12, giving her a unique global perspective. Although she loves exploring the world, she hasn’t quite won the battle against jet lag. Susan earned her Master’s in Human Resources Management from Georgetown University, further deepening her expertise and commitment to the HR field.
