Olivia Newman
Olivia is a Research Advisor for the Economic Program at Third Way, focused on family and economic policy issues including paid leave, child care, and federal benefits for families.
Olivia has engaged with a variety of policy issues throughout her education and career. After graduating with her B.A. in International Affairs from Lafayette College, Olivia began her role as a caseworker at the International Rescue Committee. Supporting refugees and immigrants in navigating issues such as employment, public benefits, and healthcare access showed Olivia how much her clients could benefit from policy change in addition to social services. As a result, she decided to obtain her MPP at Duke University, where she was a generalist but focused heavily on another passion of hers: gun violence prevention. Through each of these experiences, Olivia found that economic policy was a critical component of the changes she hoped to see across her various policy interest areas. Olivia is thus thrilled to be working to advance innovative and supportive economic policy at Third Way.
In her free time, Olivia enjoys reading, running, and listening to music.
