On the first Friday of each month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) releases its employment situation report—often referred to as “The Jobs Report.” It’s a huge data dump of information that economists, politicians, and reporters all use to assess the economy and provide commentary on how it is performing.

In this Capital Markets 101 session, we asked Jason Furman, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and the President’s top economist, what he looks for when this report lands on his desk.
