Winning the Debate on Health Care Reform
Jim Kessler, Anne Kim
SUMMARY
This document offers a way to make the case for health care reform to middle class Americans by focusing on their concerns and explaining how reform will bring them stability and peace of mind.
To win the debate on health care reform, advocates must be able to answer the question, “What’s in it for me?” for the middle class. At a time when 60% of those polled believe reform will benefit someone else, it is critical for supporters of reform to talk directly to the middle class to explain how reform will address their concerns and improve their lives. This document outlines a way to engage the middle class by focusing on their concerns about security, offering stability and peace of mind, and presenting a clear description of the consequences of failure.
