Answering Religious Concerns about the Hate Crimes Bill
SUMMARY
A short memo that offers message guidance on answering concerns about the hate crimes bill in the faith community.
In this memo, we offer guidance on how to address religious concerns about expanding the federal hate crimes law to protect gay and lesbian people. It is based on our extensive original quantitative and qualitative research into gay and lesbian equality issues.
Our message advice is intended to help assuage the fears of persuadable people of faith and those in the “moveable middle” and avert a fight between the religious community and gay and lesbian Americans.
