The Case for Doubling the Pell Grant

Emmi Navarro, Tosin Akintola, Michelle Dimino, & Shelbe Klebs

Jump to section...

Pell Grants are the foundation of our national investment in higher education, helping pave the way for millions of low- and middle-income students to access and complete college. But the current maximum Pell Grant covers less than one-third of the cost of attending a four-year college. It’s why we need to double the maximum award available to students and families. Congress has an opportunity to right the ship and boost the grant’s purchasing power, both as an immediate fix to help students post-pandemic, and as a permanent solution to making college more affordable for all. Our latest video explains why it’s time to double the Pell Grant.
