Third Way Statement on the SECURE 340B Act
WASHINGTON—Third Way issued the following statement from Sandy Max, Deputy Director of Health Care.
“The 340B Drug Pricing Program should help patients afford their medications and support providers who serve communities that too often struggle to access care. But unclear rules and weak accountability have allowed the program to drift from its purpose.
“That is why Third Way applauds Representatives Scott Peters (D-CA) and John Joyce (R-PA) for introducing the SECURE 340B Act, comprehensive bipartisan legislation that would refocus the program on its original goal: lowering medication costs for patients and protecting access to care in underserved communities.
“The legislation includes many of the reforms Third Way has long supported, including a clear patient definition, meaningful charity care requirements, stronger guardrails for child sites, and consistent reporting requirements for all parties involved. These commonsense reforms are essential to ensure 340B serves patients and communities—not profits.
“Third Way thanks Representatives Peters and Joyce for their leadership in strengthening this important program. At a time when patients are struggling to afford medications and providers in vulnerable communities are under growing financial pressure, reforms like these are essential to protecting access to care.”
