Is Artificial Intelligence a Guardian or a Gateway of Disinformation?

Fake news and disinformation have been hot topics since the 2016 election, but they're much older. The conspiracy theories that the CIA invented AIDS and that fluoride in the water is a mind-control tool also originated as Soviet disinformation campaigns (seriously!) These chapters of history will seem quaint compared to what could happen in the AI era. Or maybe not.

The internet and social media have turbocharged disinformation, injecting once-marginal lies, half-truths, and conspiracy theories into mainstream politics. Now, hot new AI tools have the potential to detect and disrupt disinformation faster than ever before… as well as to spin up new campaigns faster than we’ve ever seen.

So will AI be a guardian or a gateway for disinformation? Join Third Way on Wednesday, December 6, from 12:00 PM–1:30 PM at District Architecture Center where we'll discuss both sides of the AI-disinformation coin. We will be joined by:
