WASHINGTON — Third Way released the following statement from Josh Freed, Senior Vice President of Third Way’s Climate and Energy Program:

“In case anyone had a final shred of doubt of the irresponsibility of this administration, today’s fuel economy rollback puts it to bed.”

“Given this unfolding economic crisis, we need to do more, not less, to invest in new technologies and infrastructure that will help create jobs, keep American industries competitive, and reduce transportation sector emissions. The SAFE rule barely keeps pace with the market and further hampers our ability to get on the fastest, fairest path to net-zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.”

“We need to move swiftly toward cleaner vehicles and fuels so that American automakers are manufacturing what the world wants to buy. In siding with fossil fuel interests, the Trump Administration is ceding the U.S. auto industry’s leadership to China and other countries.”
