Third Way Voices Support for the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act Passage

WASHINGTON—Today, Third Way released the following statement from Senior Vice President Josh Freed on the Senate passage of the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act. The legislation will now head to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

“We’ve said time and again: relying on Vladimir Putin’s authoritarian regime for nuclear fuel threatens our national security and that of our allies. And at a time when Russia controls one third of the world’s low-enriched uranium supply and is the only country producing high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) for commercial use—we simply cannot afford to maintain the status quo.

"To challenge the growing influence of authoritarian regimes, the United States must lead commercialization of new nuclear technologies by 2035. This bill will provide the long-term market certainty needed to support this mission and position the US as a major global energy partner for decades to come. We thank our partners in Congress for passing the Russian uranium ban, which is the most significant action to date to end Putin’s chokehold on the global nuclear marketplace and establish a domestic uranium supply. We now urge the Administration to swiftly sign this bill into law and continue its efforts to reassert American global leadership in nuclear energy.”
