Third Way Statement on House Passage of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2022
WASHINGTON—Third Way Senior Vice President for the Economic Program Gabe Horwitz issued the following statement on the “Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2022.”
"As we navigate seismic economic challenges in the years ahead, from pandemics to global restructuring, we must ensure American workers have the skills and training they need to compete and thrive. That’s why Third Way is thrilled to see passage of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2022 in the US House of Representatives.
"Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott’s (D-VA) bill is a bold, modern commitment to strengthen America’s workforce development system, infuse the workforce system with increased funding levels, modernize American Job Centers, and expand sector partnerships and work-based learning models such as apprenticeships. Along with support for reentry services and community college-based training, it makes the system much more affordable and accessible through permanent supportive services. And it makes a serious commitment to expanding equity in our workforce so that all Americans have equal opportunities and access to good-paying jobs.
"It is essential that we equip the workforce system with the resources necessary to combat current and long-standing economic challenges. WIOA is an important step to that, and we applaud Chairman Scott and the successful House vote on this critical piece of legislation. We encourage the Senate to pass it quickly."
