Third Way Statement on House Impeachment Inquiry Vote

WASHINGTON—Third Way released the following statement from Jim Kessler, Executive Vice President for Policy:

“Today’s House impeachment inquiry vote proves once again that the MAGA extremist rout over more moderate congressional Republicans continues.”

“Let’s face it, there has never been less enthusiasm for an impeachment inquiry. Senate Republicans want no part in this show. Traditional House Republicans hoped this would go away. Even Fox News’ Peter Doocy admitted, “The House Oversight Committee has been at this for years, and they have so far not been able to provide any concrete evidence that Joe Biden personally profited from his son Hunter’s overseas business.”

"It would be irrational to expect the same House Republicans who refused to certify Joe Biden’s election, took 15 votes to elect a Speaker, ousted that same House Speaker, and shut down the House for weeks over their inability to choose a new Speaker to then make the rational choice to end this baseless, overtly political impeachment inquiry. The dwindling, sane wing of the Republican House majority needed to stand up. They didn’t.

“There are real problems Congress must tackle – Ukraine, Israel, the border, the budget, artificial intelligence, tax extenders, and permitting reform to name a few bipartisan issues. And then there is the path of political clickbait performance theater. Rep. Chip Roy recently ranted on the House floor that he couldn’t name “one material, meaningful, significant thing the Republican majority has done.” Look in the mirror. Stunts like this are the reason why.”
