Third Way Says New White House Announcement on First Movers Coalition is a Big Deal

WASHINGTON – Third Way released the following statement from Josh Freed, Senior Vice President for Third Way’s Climate and Energy Program, on today’s First Movers Coalition announcements out of Davos:

“Today at Davos, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry announced that the First Movers Coalition (FMC) is adding carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and aluminum production as areas of focus. This a big deal. Innovators, manufacturers, and workers – particularly in the United States – can create carbon removal technologies and low-carbon aluminum but need assurances there will be demand. Having five of the world’s largest end-users of aluminum and some of the biggest names in innovation and the knowledge economy as committed customers certainly sends the right signal. Now, Congress must do its part to support RD&D and incentives that help reduce technology costs, get these solutions into the market, and give US manufacturers and workers an early lead in these new industries.”
