Third Way Applauds Spanberger’s Data Center Accountability Framework
WASHINGTON—Third Way Senior Vice President of the Climate and Energy Program, Josh Freed, issued the following statement on Virginia’s data center accountability framework.
“Governor Spanberger is showing the country what responsible leadership on data centers looks like. Her framework gives Virginians real control over development in their communities and forces data centers to deliver tangible benefits–not empty promises.
“This plan will make large energy users pay their fair share, strengthen transparency and community engagement, protect Virginia’s air and water, and require industry to help build the clean, reliable energy system its growth demands. This framework provides a template that other states and the federal government can learn from.
“The growth of any industry in the Commonwealth should deliver the best possible deal for Virginians. Governor Spanberger charts a smart path forward by raising the bar for data centers while preserving her state’s leadership in the sector. Most importantly, communities will now have the tools they need to shape projects affecting their energy bills and quality of life.
“These reforms put Third Way’s New Economic Bargain into action: data centers should pay their way, help build clean, reliable power, and deliver real benefits to host communities. Governor Spanberger is giving states a model for welcoming growth without sticking families and businesses with the bill.”
