WASHINGTON – Third Way released the following statement from Josh Freed, Senior Vice President for the Climate and Energy Program, on the recent executive actions to be signed by President Joe Biden.

“The Executive Orders announced today are a down-payment on the whole-of-government approach that the Biden Administration is taking on climate. It reinforces the President’s vision that when someone says “climate action” they hear “jobs,” said Josh Freed, Senior Vice President for Third Way’s Climate and Energy Program. “The actions today are sweeping and comprehensive and in line with the climate solutions we’ve supported for many years. We are particularly excited by the fact that these actions will:

  • Put the United States on the path to get to net-zero carbon pollution by 2050.
  • Use all carbon-pollution free sources for the utility sector by 2035, which reinforces the importance of nuclear power and the need to invest in carbon capture for natural gas.
  • Harness the buying power of the federal government to accelerate demand for clean energy, and make sure those jobs are union jobs.
  • Use every clean energy technology we have, and invest in innovation to develop the technologies we still need.
  • Re-establish science as the guiding force informing US government policy.
  • Ensure that environmental justice is a key part of every conversation and policy decision on climate.”

“This is what’s needed to meet the moment and create good-paying, skilled American jobs for Americans no matter their race or zip code.”
