Third Way Applauds H.R. 1236, the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act
WASHINGTON — Third Way issued the following statement from Lanae Erickson, Senior Vice President for Social Policy & Politics:
"States across the nation have increasingly been stepping up to pass extreme risk protection laws, which provide family members and law enforcement with a critical tool to temporarily remove weapons from those who pose a serious danger to themselves or others. The Extreme Risk Protection Order Act would help further encourage this state-led momentum by providing federal funding to states that pass their own versions of these lifesaving laws.
"As Americans endure senseless tragedy after tragedy, we need real leadership in Washington to put forward actionable common ground solutions to prevent mass shootings. The Extreme Risk Protection Order Act is exactly the type of commonsense legislation that Congress can pass right now to begin to address our gun violence epidemic. It’s been far too long since we’ve taken meaningful action on gun safety. Americans are demanding action. Passing The Extreme Risk Protection Order Act would be an important first step toward keeping all Americans safe."
