Thank you, Senator Tom Carper

WASHINGTON — Third Way released the following statement from President Jonathan Cowan:

"The Delaware Way is about always seeking progress, working across the aisle, being respectful, and waking up each morning as an inveterate optimist. No one was prouder about “the Delaware Way” than our friend and mentor Tom Carper, who announced he is not seeking reelection to the Senate in 2024.

"For Third Way, Senator Tom Carper is a singular friend in a town where “friend” can mean almost anything. Before we even had our name, we pitched him on an idea of a bold and optimistic think tank from the center-left. At the time, he did not know us. But he took a chance and became our first honorary co-chair. Over the next 18 years, he made it a point to say how proud he was of the work we do. His pride meant more than he could possibly imagine. We cannot express enough gratitude for being part of Tom Carper’s marvelous Senate career and his faith and belief in the Delaware Way.

"Tom Carper will retire as one of the most consequential elected leaders in the history of Delaware. A great Senator, Governor, House member, and Treasurer, his list of accomplishments is immense. And whatever office he held, his belief in making progress, seeking consensus, and never demonizing the person across the table never wavered. He embodied the Delaware Way. We believe America owes him a debt of gratitude. We know that we do.
