Statement on Bipartisan Health Care Reform Bills Advanced by House Committees

Deputy Director, Health Care

WASHINGTON—Third Way issued the following statement from Sandy Max, Deputy Director of Health Care.

“Americans want health care that works for them, not the status quo where consolidated hospital systems can charge more simply because they can. Today, patients and families are paying the price through higher premiums, larger deductibles, and medical bills they cannot afford.

“That’s why Third Way applauds the House Ways & Means and Energy & Commerce Committees for advancing bipartisan bills that make meaningful steps to make health care more affordable and transparent. These bills won’t solve every challenge facing health care in America, but they lay an important foundation for the reforms needed to make health care more affordable and easier to use.

"Requiring hospitals to disclose their prices will help identify excessive charges, strengthen accountability, and give people basic information about what routine care will cost before they receive it.

“Congress should pass these bills and continue fighting to ensure every American has meaningful coverage that they can afford, access, and easily use.”
