Statement from Third Way Senior Vice President for Climate and Energy Josh Freed on EPA Tailpipe Rule
WASHINGTON—Third Way Senior Vice President from Climate and Energy Josh Freed issued the following statement in response to the EPA’s announcement of the new automobile emissions standards.
"Today’s rule on auto emissions is a win for American consumers, the American auto industry, and our auto workforce. It reflects the input of American automakers, and helps ensure that the US will retain a vibrant, cleaner auto industry well into the future, and one that produces the affordable SUVs, pickups, and cars drivers want."
"Let’s be clear: this rule reinforces the US’s position to be a global leader in vehicle electrification and rapidly reduce pollution. It also advances the nation’s energy independence and climate goals while addressing manufacturers’ and labor’s desire to grow the industry in a way that is sustainable and protects good-paying jobs. Importantly, the new rule also acknowledges the reality of the ebb and flow of demand for EVs and consumers’ continued interest in hybrids. When the United Auto Workers lauds the EPA for 'coming a long way to create a more feasible emissions rule,' and General Motors reinforces this by adding they support 'the goals of the EPA’s final rule,' it's clear: these new regulations hit the perfect balance. This will keep the United States on the path to having 50% of new vehicles sold in the US be electric by 2030. Consumers will still be able to choose between electric, hybrid, or gas-powered cars, AND to buy American or imported vehicles."
"This is the smart path forward for the US, the American auto industry, and American auto workers. Ignoring the global march to electric vehicles would cripple the American auto industry, and result in far fewer choices for American drivers in the future."
