Individual Mandate Repeal Is A "Cynical Attempt to Sabotage the ACA"

WASHINGTON—Third Way released the following statement from Gabe Horwitz, Vice President for the Economic Program:

"After failing to kill Obamacare in their misguided repeal and replace effort, Republicans are now set on killing it piece-by-piece, organ-by-organ. The GOP’s newest attempt to weaken and then kill Obamacare is in the tax bill and is just as misguided as their dozens of previous efforts. Repealing the individual mandate as part of tax reform would punish Americans with higher health insurance premiums, fewer health plan choices, and less coverage. The reason is simple: without a requirement for people to buy coverage when they are healthy, that coverage will not be affordable and available for people when they get sick or have a pre-existing condition. Congress must abandon this cynical attempt to sabotage the Affordable Care Act and, instead, pass bipartisan fixes to stabilize health insurance markets."
