The number of women-owned firms in the United States has grown dramatically in recent years, and yet they are fewer in number than firms owned by men, they are smaller, and they employ far fewer people.

Despite enormous strides in education and equality in the workplace, the gap that women face in pay, social capital, and senior-level experience all contribute to the resources women have when launching and scaling their business ventures.
