On February 7th, over 100 hill staffers, press, and other higher education stakeholders joined Third Way for our inaugural “Wine with Wonks” reception designed to tackle wonky higher ed policy topics in a non-wonky way (over a glass or two of wine). This e first event focused on demystifying accreditation—a timely conversation with the meeting of the accrediting body of the institutional accreditations, National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI), happening that same day.
We had experts Emily Bouck, Antoinette Flores, Michael Itzkowitz, Terri Taylor, and Dr. Frank Wu answer guests’ key accreditation questions including:
•What is accreditation?
•How do schools get and stay accredited?
•What do people say it needs to be changed/or what are the problems with the status quo?
•How could we improve it, both when it comes to student outcomes and innovation?
The purpose of this reception was for Third Way to help tackle touch higher education topics as the Higher Education Act reauthorization conversation continues to heat up on the Hill. Given the high interest, plans are already in the works for a second reception.
