Wine with Wonks: Admissions & Recruiting
Last year, the “Varsity Blues” scandal took the world of college admissions and recruiting by storm by exposing some of the inequitable practices that exist in our higher education system today. While all of that national attention helped to lift the curtain on the often-veiled process of admissions and recruitment, a number of questions remain: How exactly do colleges recruit and build their classes? How does state funding impact this process? What is the status of affirmative action and race conscious admissions policies? And what role can Congress play in impacting admissions and recruitment policy?
To help you dive deeper into these wonky questions (and more!) in a non-wonky setting, join Third Way on Monday, March 2nd, from 5:30-7:30 pm at Bar Deco for the next installment of our “Wine with Wonks” series. This reception style event will give you a chance to ask your most pressing questions about the college admissions and recruitment process while enjoying a glass of wine (or two!) with the following higher education experts:
- Dale Bittinger, Assistant Vice Provost for Undergraduate Admissions, Orientation, and School Partnerships at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)
- Ellie Eckerson Peters, Assistant Director of Policy Research at The Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP)
- Wil del Pilar, Vice President of Higher Education Policy and Practice at The Education Trust
- Michael Rose, Director of Government Relations at the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC)
We hope to see you there!
