Behind the Bumper Sticker: Free College

With Higher Education Act (HEA) negotiations underway in the Senate, and the 2020 presidential primary ramping up, discussions around free college are back in the news. But what does “free college” really mean if you dig beneath the headlines? Is it actually free? And which students benefit the most?
To answer these questions and more, join Third Way on Friday, March 15th, from 12:00 to 1:30pm at the Capitol Visitors Center for the fifth event in our "Behind the Bumper Sticker" series, this time featuring a robust discussion with some of higher ed’s preeminent free college experts.
Lanae Erickson, Senior Vice President of Social Policy & Politics at Third Way, will moderate this conversation with:
- Dr. Kenyatta Lovett, Executive Director of Complete Tennessee;
- Dr. Julie Margetta Morgan, Fellow at the Roosevelt Institute; and
- Dr. Richard Reeves, Senior Fellow of Economic Studies and Director of the Future of the Middle Class Initiative at the Brookings Institution.
We hope we all come away more fully understanding what policymakers, activists, and candidates mean when they say “free college.” Lunch will be provided.
