WASHINGTON — Third Way is pleased to announce that immigration strategist Frank Sharry is joining the organization as a Senior Fellow, bringing decades of experience in immigration policy, politics, and communications to Third Way’s work. Sharry has long been a leading voice in the immigration debate.

“Frank Sharry has spent his career grappling with one of the country’s most difficult and politically consequential issues. He understands both the moral stakes and the political realities of immigration better than almost anyone in the field. As Third Way continues to advance a pragmatic immigration agenda rooted in order, fairness, and public trust, Frank’s insights and experience will be an enormous asset,” said President Jon Cowan.

Sharry has spent more than three decades helping shape the national immigration conversation. He founded America’s Voice and led the organization from 2008 to 2022. He previously led the National Immigration Forum and earlier served as executive director of Centro Presente in Boston, where he also helped co-found the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition. More recently, he has consulted on migration strategy in the United States and Europe, advised the Harris campaign on immigration and border policy, and advised the UK Labour Party on migration and asylum issues. He remains an Associate Fellow at British Future, a London-based migration think tank.

He has also continued to shape the broader public debate through his writing and commentary. In 2024, he published essays arguing that Democrats need a more balanced immigration framework that combines control, competence, and contribution including pieces in Democracy and The Atlantic.

“I’m excited to join Third Way at a moment when the country urgently needs an immigration debate grounded in seriousness instead of slogans. Americans want an immigration system that works—a border that is controlled, laws that are enforced, and legal pathways that strengthen our nation. Such an integrated framework reflects both our interests and our values, making it politically sustainable. Third Way is well-positioned to help make the case for long overdue reforms, and I look forward to contributing to that work,” said Sharry.
