Third Way Statement on the Trump Administration’s Investigation of Rep. Ilhan Omar
WASHINGTON — Third Way released the following statement on the federal investigation of Representative Ilhan Omar:
“President Donald Trump’s politically motivated investigation and raid of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home is beyond the pale and is another blaring siren warning of the danger his vendettas pose to our democracy.
“Let’s be clear, with inflation spiraling out of control, America bogged down in a forever war of choice, and a new scandal of grifting and double-dealing every day, President Trump needed to do something to divert attention. So now it’s back to a familiar ploy: attacking his political opponents with the awesome powers of the state.
“Enough. He was wrong to target the six Members of Congress who properly told military members they could refuse unlawful orders. He illegally tried to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. And he has pointed federal officials at many others who disagree with him.
“Third Way differs greatly with Rep. Omar on a range of policy and political questions. In America, those debates are waged with persuasion, not prosecution. Instead, this president has turned the Justice Department and the whole of government into an instrument of personal vengeance.
“The federal government belongs to the American people, not Donald Trump. Its immense powers exist to uphold the law, not to settle political scores. These attacks on Rep. Omar and her colleagues must end.”
