Third Way Statement on the Appointment of Rep. Cedric Richmond to a Senior White House Role
WASHINGTON — Third Way released the following statement from Matt Bennett, Executive Vice President for Public Affairs:
"We applaud President-elect Biden for his decision to name Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) as his Senior Advisor and Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement.
"Rep. Richmond is an immense talent, and he is uniquely qualified for this job. As a former chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus and current Board Chairman of its foundation, he will help ensure the Biden-Harris administration makes good on their promise to stand up for Black Americans. He also brings to the White House the critical perspective of a leader from the South, who recognizes that policies developed in Washington need to work for all Americans.
"Ever since he came to Congress, Rep. Richmond has fought for his constituents, who have long suffered the wounds of environmental injustice. We know that he will help the White House craft economic, health, and climate policy that directly address these deep racial inequities.
"Like his fellow New Democrats, Rep. Richmond has committed to finding solutions, even when none appear at hand. That approach will be an asset to the president-elect, who will take office with a Congress as deeply divided as the country.
"Third Way has long valued our relationship with Congressman Richmond, and we look forward to assisting him in any way we can in his vital new role."
