Third Way Statement on Leader Steny Hoyer’s decision to step down from leadership

WASHINGTON — Third Way released the following statement:

“For nearly two decades, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer put the needs of the nation and the House Democratic Caucus above all else. He worked every day to make House Democrats a big tent party able to win seats in every part of the country. Leader Hoyer knew Democratic moderates were the essential ingredient to winning majorities, and he made sure moderates were heard and felt welcomed in the party.

“Along with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Whip Jim Clyburn, he helped mold a legendary leadership triumvirate that passed some of the most significant legislation in American history while defending the nation against Trump extremism when our democracy was under threat. Congress may never see a leadership team so stable, so selfless and so effective as this one. And true to his nature, Leader Hoyer is stepping down from leadership as the ultimate team player.

“Lastly, Leader Hoyer was an early and great friend to Third Way. From the moment we opened our doors Leader Hoyer was a partner, inviting us to brief the Caucus on matters of politics and policy.
