Third Way Statement on Anti-AAPI Violence and Intimidation and Horror in Atlanta

WASHINGTON — Third Way issued the following statement from Matt Bennett, Executive Vice President for Public Affairs:

"There is only one rational and moral response to the rising tide of violence and intimidation directed at AAPI Americans and residents: outrage and a demand for justice. Especially after the horror in Atlanta, most political leaders have responded appropriately. Some, shockingly but unsurprisingly, have not.

"The origin of this national disgrace is not hard to pinpoint. Former President Trump has, from the beginning of the pandemic, modeled terrible, racist attitudes and behavior aimed at the AAPI community. Then, as they have in other ways, his supporters have gone even farther, including into violence. We vow to help stop those Republicans who have met this moment with racists tropes that give permission for more of these loathsome attacks.

"We are grateful to have empathy and compassion back in the White House. We are thankful to have Vice President Harris as a shining example of what the AAPI community offers America. We stand in solidarity with all leaders who have unequivocally condemned this hatred and bigotry and affirmed the vital place in our society of our AAPI friends, colleagues, and fellow citizens."
