Third Way Says Biden Budget Shows Commitment to Helping American Industries and Workers Lead

WASHINGTON — Ryan Fitzpatrick, Director of Third Way’s Climate and Energy Program released the following statement regarding the FY2022 Discussion Request:

“The surge in energy innovation funding in the American Jobs Plan shows President Biden’s commitment to moving America’s energy industries and workers to the head of the pack. Today’s discussion request for FY22 discretionary spending makes clear he intends to keep them there,” said Ryan Fitzpatrick, Director of the Third Way Climate and Energy Program.

“We’ve seen time and again that investing in clean energy innovation pays off big time, spawning new domestic industries, employing hundreds of thousands of Americans, and putting our climate goals in closer reach. As a share of our economy, though, the United States is investing less than top rivals like the European Union, China, and Japan. The Biden Administration is proposing the kind of multi-billion-dollar funding increase we’ll need year after year to take the technologies we’re developing in America—like advanced nuclear, energy storage, carbon capture and carbon removal, and clean hydrogen—and move them into the global market. The Biden budget will also help American manufacturers build new, clean, in-demand products, and ensure struggling families can heat their homes and keep the lights on. As additional details are released, we’re confident the Biden-Harris administration will continue to leverage the entirety of our government to address climate change and promote clean energy innovation that will benefit communities across the country.”
