Third Way Applauds Rep. Schneider Effort to Extend ACA Protections
WASHINGTON—Third Way issued the following statement from Darbin Wofford, Deputy Director of Health Care at Third Way:
“The best way to lower health care costs for tens of millions of Americans would be to permanently extend the Affordable Care Act’s premium tax credits as part of reopening the government. But since Republicans have completed disregarded helping families with rising prices while they control Washington, we are happy to see Rep. Brad Schneider fighting to find a separate long-term solution.
“Rep. Schneider’s bill, the Keep Healthcare Affordable Act, would extend the ACA premium tax credits for four years, and it would adjust eligibility to ensure only working- and middle-class families benefit by limiting income eligibility. This would give families years of protection, ensuring those that need assistance only have to pay a percentage of their income on health care premiums.
“It is appalling that American families are staring down exorbitant cost spikes because of Republican intransigence and their failure to permanently fix the problem. But we are thankful for Rep. Schneider’s continuation of the fight for a long-term agreement to protect coverage and keep costs manageable for those who need it most.”
