Third Way Applauds House Bipartisan Paid Family Leave Working Group’s New Legislative Framework
WASHINGTON—Third Way Director for the Economic Program Zach Moller issued the following statement on the release of a legislative framework by the House Bipartisan Paid Family Leave Working Group:
“There is no better time than today to make progress on paid leave. We applaud Representatives Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Stephanie Bice (R-OK), Colin Allred (D-TX), Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D. (R-IA), Haley Stevens (D-MI), and Julia Letlow (R-LA), for putting forth a legislative framework aimed at providing more families with paid leave.
“Every day, too many Americans face the painful choice between losing a paycheck or being unable to care for themselves or their loved ones. Paid leave is essential to helping people across the country navigate the demands of work and family—whether that is having a child, caring for another loved one, or dealing with more than a short-term medical issue.
“That is why we are thrilled to see continued leadership in Congress to work across the aisle on this important topic and facilitate bipartisan efforts focused on helping working families thrive.
“The framework shows that when it comes to progress on paid leave, there are many legislative levers available to help more workers access paid leave. Progress on federal paid leave policy is long overdue, and after a year of hard work by the House members, launching of this legislative framework is an important step towards achieving that goal.”
