Third Way Applauds DOE Efforts to Promote Commercial Success of American Clean Energy Technologies
WASHINGTON —Third Way released the following from statement from Ryan Fitzpatrick, Director of the Climate and Energy Program:
“Today, the Biden-Harris Administration announced the creation of an Under Secretary for Infrastructure, a new role at the Department of Energy that will oversee the Loan Programs Office (LPO), the recently established Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), and other programs to promote commercial adoption of new technologies.
“We’re thrilled to see President Biden and Secretary Granholm dedicating focus and personnel to coordinating demonstration and deployment efforts that are critical to America’s success and global competitiveness in clean energy innovation.
“Among other responsibilities, this role will guide the implementation of the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations, which received $21 billion in the bipartisan infrastructure law to scale-up and commercialize advanced clean energy technologies like clean hydrogen, carbon capture, grid-scale energy storage, advanced nuclear reactors, and more.
“DOE and the National Labs do amazing work in research and development of new technologies. But we need to be just as good at getting promising technologies out of the lab and onto construction sites if the US wants to reap the full economic and climate rewards from our innovation investments. The Biden Administration clearly understands this. By creating an Under Secretary for Infrastructure to coordinate and promote demonstration and deployment efforts, DOE will be better positioned to support new and expanded domestic energy industries, spur private sector investment in more projects, strengthen US manufacturing and supply chains, and ensure American industries and workers can compete in global markets.”
