Statement on Biden Administration Regulations to Strengthen Consumer Protections for Students

WASHINGTON — Third Way released the following statement from Michelle Dimino, Deputy Director of Education:

“This week, the Biden Administration issued final regulations that will strengthen federal oversight of low-quality, high-risk colleges. When predatory colleges continue enrolling students while on the brink of financial collapse, abruptly close their doors, or abuse the rules governing federal aid access, they leave students in the lurch and leech taxpayer dollars that are too often never recouped. We are glad to see these common-sense actions to protect students against the significant harm caused by shady institutional practices and sudden college closures.

“Along with the final Gainful Employment (GE) rule released earlier this month, these new regulations continue the Biden Administration’s laudable efforts to bolster consumer protections for students and hold institutions to account for using taxpayer dollars responsibly and providing an education of real value to their students.”
