No Labels Shows Their Extremism on Abortion
WASHINGTON - Third Way Senior Strategic Advisor Emily Cain issued the following statement on the No Labels third-party presidential bid:
“Leaders of the No Labels Party claim they are pursuing a ‘common ground’ third-party presidential bid because both Democrats and Republicans have become ‘too extreme.’ So, it is both strange and alarming that No Labels chose to roll out their campaign agenda featuring someone with extreme and out-of-touch views on one of the most pressing issues of our time: Abortion.
"Former Governor Jon Huntsman (R-UT) ran for president more than a decade ago stating that if Roe were to be overturned, he would support a total ban on abortion and even bragged about having signed ‘every pro-life bill’ that came across his desk.
"Though the No Labels policy platform offers only a feeble dodge on abortion (calling it ‘complicated’ and offering no specifics), they showed their true colors when they invited Huntsman to serve as a spokesman for it. His absolutist view is profoundly out of step, not just with medicine and science, but with the 64% of Americans who say abortion should be legal in most or all cases, and as recent referenda in red states like Kansas and Kentucky have made clear.
“Don’t be fooled by No Labels and their false claims about finding common ground on tough issues facing our country. Some of the people they have tapped to carry their message are extremists with dangerous ideas. If No Labels is serious about supporting political leaders whose positions on abortion don’t ‘seek to exploit our divisions on this issue but instead choose the path of empathy and respect,’ they need look no further than President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.”
