New Democrat Coalition’s Affordability Agenda Focuses on What Matters Most: Lowering Costs for Families
WASHINGTON—Third Way issued the following statement from Zach Moller, Senior Director of the Economic Program.
“The New Democrat Coalition’s affordability agenda is a plan that makes the American Dream feel within reach again. We applaud the New Dems for their unwavering leadership on pushing for policy to lower costs for American families.
“The affordability agenda tackles the biggest pressures families face. It would lower prices of groceries and household essentials with smarter trade policies and rolled-back tariffs. It would strengthen protection from excessive health care costs, shield Americans from overly aggressive medical debt collection, and improve Medicare and Medicaid, including by going after fraud and abuse in the system.
“The affordability agenda cuts red tape in housing and speeds up construction to increase supply. It would make energy more reliable and affordable by streamlining permitting and reducing barriers to critical energy infrastructure and grid upgrades. And it would help working families and caregivers with lower child care costs, expanded paid leave, elder care, and tax relief.
“The New Dem agenda is exactly the kind of forward-looking approach the country needs, and we hope it earns broad support in Congress.”
