Automate This Final 01

The coming wave of automation does not mean we need to do away with the concept of working for a living—it means we need to upskill our workforce so Americans can compete and succeed in the new economy. We need to leverage the many places people learn to ensure workers develop the four types of skills they’ll need to face off with robots—and win.

Our framework offers a starting point for a conversation about the skills we’ll need and where we could learn them. In an accompanying report, “Automate This: Building the Perfect 21st-Century Worker,” we define each of these skills, explain where the gaps are, and describe where Americans are—or, in some cases, aren’t, but could be—learning these skills.
