New Millennium Nuclear Energy Summit
Third Way and the Idaho National Lab hosted the New Millennium Nuclear Energy Summit, a bipartisan forum on the future of nuclear energy in the United States. The event featured U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, White House Advisor Carol Browner, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Chairman Greg Jaczko, senators and representatives, nearly 20 industry chief executive officers, labor and non-governmental organizations, and energy investors. U.S. Senators Tom Carper (D-Del.) and George V. Voinovich (R-Ohio) are honorary co-chairs of the event. Despite the deep divisions in Washington over energy issues, many on both sides of the aisle agree that nuclear energy must play a role in the nation’s energy and economic future. The summit will provide a forum to develop a broader consensus on the future of nuclear energy in the United States and determine the steps needed to revive the U.S. nuclear energy industry.
