GOP Candidates: On the Road to Nowhere
From Calvin Coolidge to Ronald Reagan and beyond, Republican presidents have a proud history of supporting American technological innovation. So why do the 2012 GOP presidential contenders seem to be turning their backs on investments in innovation at a moment when we need it most?
Third Way thought they might need a quick history lesson, so we’ve sent each of the GOP candidates a letter, along with this memo which outlines their party’s previous dedication to funding promising new technologies, even during tough economic times. We note that past Republican efforts “allowed the U.S. to take the lead in the railroad, computing, and defense technologies sectors, providing our nation with tremendous economic gains.”
