Third Way Statement on The College Transparency Act of 2017
May 15, 2017
WASHINGTON—Third Way released the following statement from Lanae Erickson Hatalsky, Vice President for Social Policy & Politics:
“Getting a postsecondary education has become a necessity for Americans looking to achieve financial stability and mobility in today’s economy. But for too long, consumers have been forced to rely on limited information when determining which institution will give them their money’s worth. That problem was caused by a federal law, and today’s bipartisan introduction of The College Transparency Act of 2017 represents a critical step in fixing it by making public for the first time information on how well colleges and universities are performing for all of their students. We commend Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) for working together to champion this much-needed transparency so that both consumers and policymakers feel empowered to make the best choices possible about where to invest in higher education.”
