Reps. DelBene, Peters and Sinema Join Third Way as Honorary House Co-Chairs
February 24, 2015
Today, Third Way announced that Reps. Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Scott Peters (D-CA), and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) are joining the organization as Honorary House Co-Chairs.
Third Way President Jonathan Cowan said: "Third Way is thrilled to welcome Representatives DelBene, Peters, and Sinema as honorary co-chairs. Each of these Members is an effective consensus-builder who shares our commitment to promoting economic growth and fiscal discipline, growing our clean energy sector, protecting our national security, and finding common ground to solve the challenges facing our country. We look forward to working with them to get results in the 114th Congress and beyond."
Rep. DelBene said: "I believe members of Congress must work together on a bipartisan basis to ensure we are good stewards of policy. Too many of our laws are outdated and partisan bickering prevents us from moving forward on commonsense solutions. I look forward to working with Third Way in this endeavor."
Rep. Scott Peters said: "I am honored to continue my work with Third Way in my new role as Honorary House Co-Chair. Third Way's work to find innovative bipartisan solutions to some of our nation's most pressing policy issues matches the San Diego spirit I have tried to foster in Congress. I am looking forward to working with Third Way in the coming year, specifically on ways we can grow our economy now and for future generations."
Rep. Sinema said: "I'm focused on where members of Congress agree, and on finding new, inclusive ways to solve problems. Third Way has been called 'incorrigible pragmatists' and 'radical centrists' – and if you ask me, Washington could use a little more of this kind of thinking."
The three new honorary co-chairs will join Assistant House Democratic Leader James Clyburn (D-SC) and Reps. Ron Kind (D-WI), Joseph Crowley (D-NY), and Jared Polis (D-CO) as Honorary House Co-Chairs.
About Third Way
We believe that America is best led from the center. We are Democrats and Independents who share the conviction that government plays an essential role in keeping our promises – for equal opportunity, individual liberty, stewardship of our resources, and lasting security. But we also believe that our nation's public policies must regularly be reimagined if we're going to fulfill those ideals. That conviction makes us highly allergic to the orthodoxies of both the left and right. Perhaps not surprisingly, we don't readily fit into the confines of the standard ideological boxes. That means we are passionately moderate on economic, energy, and education issues, unabashedly forward-thinking on social policy, avowedly internationalist on national security.
