The Politics of Opportunity - The Case for a New Middle-Class Economic Message
SUMMARY
Progressives win opinion polls on the economy but are losing middle class voters at the ballot box. This memo looks at why and how to fix it.
This memo finds that progressives’ poor performance at the ballot box among middle-class voters cannot be solely explained by culture and national security. Instead we find five areas of disconnect between what progressives say about and propose for the middle class and how the middle class views their own economic situation, that of America’s, and what they are looking for from government. This memo also introduces a succinct, forward-looking, new progressive economic message that is simply “A New Era of Middle Class Opportunity.”
