Third Way’s analysis of the NJ, MA, and VA races looking at how the Democrats performed in those races compared to 2008, and in particular, what role Independents had to play. One interesting finding – of the 1.5 million votes that shifted from Obama in 2008 to the Republicans in 2009 and 2010, more than 900,000 were Independents.
Our conclusion is that for better or for worse, Democrats and Independents are married. But one spouse is saying, “maybe it’s time we see other people."
