A nuclear terrorist attack against the United States could kill hundreds of thousands of people and cause trillions in damage. While there is broad agreement regarding the threat and successful programs exist to eliminate it, they have been underfunded and ignored by the Bush administration. This module argues for increased funding to secure loose nuclear weapons and nuclear materials before they fall into the hands of terrorists and calls for the President to appoint a Coordinator to oversee the government’s strategy to prevent a nuclear terrorist attack. The module provides options to roll out these policies to the public and provides responses to possible criticisms of the proposals.
