This module outlines the threats emerging from al Qaeda and the Taliban’s safe haven in the Afghan-Pakistan border region. This sanctuary has resulted in a stronger and better financed Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan and a training ground for al Qaeda recruits. To deal with these threats we argue that the United States must take decisive action to disrupt this safe haven to protect our troops in Afghanistan and prevent an attack against the United States. The module provides options to roll out these policies to the public and provides responses to possible criticisms of the proposals.
