Today, the antiquated Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy will finally be swept into the dustbin of history. This change will free patriotic and qualified gay and lesbian Americans to serve their country with distinction and not be hamstrung by dread, worrying that one errant pronoun or innocent aside could end their careers. Third Way could not be more proud to have worked to repeal this outdated policy. We applaud the fearless leadership of the President whose principled determination made repeal a reality. We thank the committed champions on Capitol Hill who shepherded this landmark legislation through. And we congratulate the Pentagon for overseeing a smooth & careful transition, once again demonstrating the utmost professionalism of our Armed Forces. Finally, we are grateful to the many brave and patriotic service members who were discharged under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and courageously stood up to petition their government to change the policy. Their valor and forthrightness inspired us, and their stories convinced the country that our military would be better with their service.
