Statement from Third Way President Jon Cowan on the passage of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal by the Senate:

“With today’s passage of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal, we have taken an historic step towards ensuring that all Americans are welcomed into the institutions and traditions that make our country strong. Congress has recognized what military leaders, the men and women who wear the uniform, and the American people had already come to accept: that we need every qualified, patriotic, and courageous American who is willing to put their life on the line to protect our security and our values. We applaud the leadership of President Obama, the Secretary of Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs who have spoken so eloquently about the values of our military, like integrity, which are better served by ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. We are confident that our armed forces—unmatched in both strength and professionalism—will be able to carry out the careful transition laid out in the Pentagon Working Group Report.”
