Third Way Statement on the Passing of Ed Lorenzen

January 28, 2018

WASHINGTON—Third Way issued the following statement from Jim Kessler, Senior Vice President for Policy:

“The centrist community lost an unsung hero this weekend. Ed Lorenzen was a brilliant, dedicated, and principled leader of our centrist community. His knowledge of the budget was encyclopedic, and his commitment to fiscal responsibility was passionate and sincere. Ed’s was one of the quiet voices in Washington that managed to have a remarkable influence in this town. We were better for working with him at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. He was kind, generous, and always willing to share ideas.

“Ed passed away in a fire in his home in Covington, Rhode Island along with his 5-year old son, Michael. According to news reports, he died with his son in his arms. He is survived by his ex-wife Kelli, 13-year old son Zacheri, and 2-year old daughter Penny. Donations to the family can be made here.

“We are heartbroken and wish peace for his family. We will miss you, Captain Paygo.”
