Third Way Statement on the Obama Administration’s Teacher Preparation Regulations

October 12, 2016

Third Way issued the following statement from Lanae Erickson Hatalsky, Vice President for Social Policy and Politics:

“Today, the Obama Administration took an important step toward making sure every child in America has a teacher that is well-prepared and effective from day one. Measuring teacher preparation programs by how well their graduates perform in the classroom will help to ensure that more students are served by excellent teachers that are truly ready to help their students succeed. Raising standards for teacher preparation will also help to improve perceptions of the rigor and prestige of the profession, which is critical to attracting the next generation of excellent public school teachers. We congratulate the Administration on yet another major action they’ve taken to increase accountability in higher education and ensure that those who attend college are getting their money's worth.”
